Plastic Thermoforming Types

①Vacuum forming

This method is the simplest, but the pressure difference caused by vacuuming is not large, and it is only used for products with simple appearance.

②Pressure thermoforming

Using compressed air or steam pressure, the heat-softened sheet is forced against the surface of the mold to form. Because the pressure difference is larger than that of vacuum forming, products with complex shapes can be manufactured.

③Mold thermoforming

The heated and softened sheet is placed between the paired female and male molds, and formed with the help of mechanical pressure. This method has higher molding pressure and can be used to manufacture products with complex shapes, but the mold cost is higher.

④Plunger pressure forming

Partially pre-stretching the heated sheet with a plunger or a male mold, and then molding with vacuum or air pressure, can produce products with large depth and uniform wall thickness distribution.

⑤Solid phase forming

The sheet is heated to a temperature that does not exceed the melting point of the resin, keeping the material in a solid state for shaping. For ABS resin, polypropylene, high molecular weight high density polyethylene. The rigidity and strength of the parts are higher than those of general thermoforming products.

⑥Two-sheet thermoforming

Two sheets are stacked together, and air is blown in the middle to make large hollow parts. A kind of special processing method for processing thermoplastic sheet materials into various products.
